Frequently Asked Questions

What do students benefits from working with you?

There is a lot of stress around the college application process for both students and their parents. As a graduate of New York City private schools and two Ivy League Universities, and as a parent myself,  I understand first-hand the pressure many kids are under. Thanks to my expertise in adolescent development and experience successfully guiding hundreds of students, I know exactly how to support students both academically and emotionally through the process.

How do parents benefit from working with you?

I allow parents to be hands off around their child’s college application. It’s very important that parents understand that their child has to do this on their own. I will make sure that students hit all their deadlines and produce incredible work. For many families, this separation around the application is beneficial for their relationship and relieves a lot of stress. My students develop a strong sense of ownership and autonomy that will serve them well as they move onto college.

How does your pricing work? Do you charge hourly or a flat fee?

As a teacher and coach, I understand that all students work at a different pace so I don’t limit the amount of time I spend with each applicant. In order to keep the focus on creating the best possible application and writing an outstanding essay (rather than counting hours or trying to cram work into a set time period) I always charge a flat fee.

What schools do your students attend?

The majority of my students end up at one of their top three schools and receive multiple acceptances. In the past several  years, clients I have coached have attended Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown, University of Pennsylvania, Middlebury, Claremont McKenna, Tufts and many others. My students are focused on finding the school that will be the absolute best fit for them.

Do you work with students with learning differences?

I have had a lot of success working with students with a wide variety of learning differences. My experience as a special education teacher allows me to tailor the application process to work for every student. I am very patient and if one approach isn’t working, we try a different one. Ultimately, I want kids to navigate the process in a way that works for them and I know exactly how to guide them to an approach that will allow them to thrive.

Do you charge for a consultation?

The initial consultation with me is always free. It is very important that there is a level of comfort and trust between everyone. Before I move forward with any family, I separately speak to both the parents and the child. It is essential that the student connects with me, and also that they really want to do the work. If for any reason that isn’t the case, I am always happy to recommend other coaches and programs.

Can you work with students anywhere in the world?

Yes, absolutely. I have been working remotely with international applicants for many years, so I am very comfortable coaching and communicating via FaceTime, phone, and email. I am very good at building relationships with kids, even from a distance. In fact, I am still in touch with many of my original students over a decade later. My experience working remotely has allowed me to offer a successful virtual coaching option for students who are not in NYC where I am based.

Do you only work with college applicants or can you also advise graduate students?

Yes, I frequently work with students applying to graduate school. I provide the same services I offer college applicants--essay and short answer help, assistance with the overall application, and support for interviews if they are required.
